World Curling Tour ramps up: Portage to Okotoks
We were back on the road this weekend, competing in the Canad Inns Women's Classic in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.
This World Curling Tour stop featured 32 teams in a triple knock-out format all chasing a $60,000 purse.
We're proud of our performance and of picking up our second championship in our second event of the World Curling Tour this season.
We went 5-1 through the first section of the tournament. We advanced to the finals after playoff wins over Teams Birchard and Hasselborg. We prevailed 9-4 over Team Matsumura in the championship final.
This was Rachel's second championship in Portage this season. Our skip, with John Morris, recently captured the Canad Inns Mixed Doubles title. The win earlier this month secured the pair a spot in the 2018 Olympic Mixed Doubles Trials for Canada.
This women's event was our second stop on the WCT this season after winning the AMJ Campbell Shorty Jenkins Curling Classic in September.
From Portage we'll jet to Okotoks, Alberta for the first Pinty's Grand Slam of Curling competition of the 2016-2017 season. The Masters begins Tuesday with Sportsnet coverage starting later in the week.
