Bottcher and Team Homan to take on the world in 2024-25
Bottcher steps into coaching; Brown continues as Alternate; Bottcher/Homan to Mixed Doubles
Building on a historic season, Team Homan is thrilled to announce strategic changes to underscore the team's unwavering commitment to excellence in the 2024-25 season and beyond.
Celebrated Canadian skip Brendan Bottcher will step into the coaching role next season for Team Homan. Brendan has a decorated career and brings a wealth of strategic insight and leadership to the team. He finished as the No. 1 ranked Canadian skip (CTRS) last season and has medaled at 7-of-8 Briers he has competed in, including capturing gold at the 2021 Canadian men's championship.
Rachel Homan, skip of Team Homan, expressed her excitement over the team's newest addition.
"Having Brendan join our coaching staff is incredibly exciting. His experience, leadership, and strategy will undoubtedly elevate our game. With Brendan living in Edmonton near me, his continuous support will be invaluable both on and off the ice."
With deep appreciation, Team Homan bids farewell to Don Bartlett, whose contributions as coach during the previous season were instrumental to the team's success. Don looks back on his time with Team Homan with pride and heartfelt gratitude.
"I am immensely proud of the team for their relentless dedication and unwavering work ethic throughout the past season. Being part of their journey, witnessing their historic achievements and, of course, winning my first World Championship with such a talented team, was a true honour. As I step back from coaching to pursue personal travel, I will continue to support them wholeheartedly. Working with some of the best curlers of this generation in Team Homan and Brendan Bottcher is something that I will be forever grateful for. "
The team wishes Don all the best in his future endeavours and is grateful for his insights during such an unforgettable season.
Rachelle Brown, whose steadfast support as Team Alternate proved invaluable during the 2024 Scotties Tournament of Hearts and World Championships, will continue as a permanent member of Team Homan until the culmination of the current Olympic cycle.
"Rachelle's positive energy and unwavering support have been integral to our success," said Rachel. "It's not a coincidence that out of the three events she joined us at last season (a Slam, Scotties, and Worlds), we won all those events with her on the bench. We even won a Grand Slam with Rachelle the season before while she filled in for Sarah on maternity leave. Her presence will undoubtedly strengthen our team bond and drive for excellence. I am also excited to have Rachelle here in Edmonton with Brendan, who is also her good friend."
In addition to joining Team Homan as coach, Brendan will team up with Rachel in Mixed Doubles. The strategic move comes before the Mixed Doubles Olympic Curling Trials (MD Trials) from December 30, 2024, to January 4, 2025. The new team will put all their efforts into developing and excelling their game in the relatively new discipline.
"I couldn't be more excited to work hard with Brendan for the short season before the Mixed Doubles Trials," said Rachel. "We have similar work ethic and goals and I look forward to training in the same city. Competing together in Mixed Doubles and having Brendan on board as our four-person coach will also be an added advantage."
