Team Mid-Season Update

This has definitely been a year, and fall of curling, like no other. Writing a blog post about our team during times like this feels strange in the midst of a global pandemic. While we love our sport, the health and wellness of our family, friends, opponents, fans, and everyone else is way more important than rocks and ice. Our thoughts go out to all of those who have been affected by Covid-19 and we hope you’re thinking like we are that things will get better!

We also know how important it is to have ways to connect during times like this and we definitely have been keeping that in mind during what would typically be the start of our competitive season. In light of this, we opened up our year by hosting our annual “Team Homan Curling Camp” (online of course!). We were so grateful to have the opportunity to share some time and interact with some great young curlers from across the country and to provide some instruction about technical, physical, mental, and tactical training!

On the competition side, we turned our attention towards trying to create safe local ‘friendlies’ against some of our biggest rivals (Einarson, Rocque, and of course Bottcher!) and doing what we can to self-broadcast these games for our fans to enjoy. We even ‘mixed it up’ with a little 6-end Team Homan 2 v. 2 match--a fun format that we sometimes like to end practices with. We were excited to finally hit the ice in Okotoks in November and really enjoyed the 5 ends we did get to play against Jones. We fully understood when the spiel was cancelled in light of rising concerns about everyone’s health across the country.

Without the opportunity to compete in a regular schedule, we’ve also sought opportunities to step up our training even more than we normally would have an opportunity to. During a typical year, our competitive season can be as long as August to May. This extended time away from competition has left the window open for us to rethink how we train and invest our energy into new ways to enhance our skills both on and off the ice.

We are also launching our first ever Team Homan swag shop based off lots of requests from you all! Click the link to check it out.

Team Homan Swag!

We want to end with a thank you to all of our fans for staying connected during this unpredictable year, and want to thank our sponsors for their continued support while we train towards our goals! We also would like to extend an immense amount of gratitude to front-line workers across our country for all that you do. Take care everyone and stay safe!
