2021 Bubble Scotties
After having some time to reflect on our experience at the Scotties this year, we can’t help but feel grateful for the safe event that Curling Canada was able to put on during COVID-19. Despite not reaching our goal of winning the event, we are very proud of our performance and excited about taking what we learned moving forward to help us improve.
Going into the Scotties, we knew it would be an event like no other. We really did miss seeing our family and fans there! The bubble experience truly was unique--during our first few days we also had to be completely isolated from our team and complete two covid tests. We were restricted to where we could go, and meals were enjoyed from the comfort of our rooms. Once we started curling, things did start to feel a little more normal. We were able to get into a routine and do the thing that we all love to do: curl! The moment when we really noticed that there were no fans in the stands was during the final, where you could have heard a pin drop between shots. Overall, coming out of our first event together as a team with a silver medal is something that we are very proud of and we cannot wait to get back on the ice together to achieve more!
What is up next? For now, Emma and Joanne are heading back into the bubble to play mixed doubles with their partners Ryan Fry and Darren Moulding and Rachel is awaiting the arrival of her baby girl! We’re looking forward to getting back together in April for the Players’ Championship and Champions Cup!
