October
We have three events behind us to start our 2018-2019 season and a busy October ahead.
After capturing gold for Canada at the inaugural Curling World Cup in China we headed to Chatham for the Princess Auto Elite 10. The Elite 10 was the first stop for the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling season.
We split our pool games and picked up a win in the quarterfinals before bowing out in the semifinals. This was the first time for a women’s division in the Elite 10 but our second time in match play. We were invited to compete against the men in 2016 and we were thrilled that Sportsnet added a women’s division with equal prize money this season.
We then headed to Calgary for the 2018 Curlers Corner Autumn Gold Classic. We qualified for the playoffs in Calgary through the B event of the triple knockout bonspiel. We advanced to the semifinals where we fell 7-4 to Team Einarson.
The crowds for the first stop on the Grand Slam of Curling were incredibly exciting and lively. We’re looking forward to experiencing that same energy again when we return to Truro, Nova Scotia for the Canada Beef Masters. We’ll be aiming to capture our fourth Masters and look forward to returning to the Maritimes. Tickets are on sale now and with Canada Beef’s help we look forward to meeting lots of fans at this Slam.
Friday, October 12th is World Egg Day and we celebrated with giveaways on our social channels. Be sure to follow our friends at Egg Farmers of Ontario on their social channels to stay informed of the hard work that Ontario farmers are doing.

Hundreds of people across our region continue to be without a roof over their head due to the devastating tornadoes that swept through the Ottawa and Gatineau region in late September. As part of the United Way’s efforts to help people rebuild we auctioned off a signed Canada jersey from our recent gold medal win in China. The auctioned raised nearly $600 which we will be donating to the After the Storm efforts. If you’d like to donate directly to this cause you can do so by clicking here.

Our third annual Team Homan Junior Curling Camp has wrapped up and what a memorable weekend it was at the Ottawa Curling Club. We were fortunate to not be impacted by the severe weather and hosted 80 campers from across North America. This year’s group of juniors were as eager, kind and talented as ever. Thank you to all who attended and we can’t wait for next year!
